If you're visiting Seoul and want to try wearing a hanbok, there are plenty of rental shops to choose from, but Daehan Hanbok stands out for its organization, transparency, and wide selection. Having rented a hanbok before, I can confidently say this was a much better overall experience.

Daehan Hanbok

About Daehan Hanbok

Daehan Hanbok is one of the most well-known hanbok rental shops near Gyeongbokgung Palace. They offer a range of hanboks, from traditional and premium styles to themed outfits like wedding hanboks or royal-inspired designs. They also have hanboks for plus-sized and tall individuals. Their process is well-structured, making it easy for first-time renters to navigate. Plus, they have a free photo studio and hairstyling services to complete the experience.

The Rental Process

The process at Daehan Hanbok is smooth and efficient.

1. Choosing the Hanbok

The first step is selecting a chima (skirt) if you're wearing a women's hanbok. This is done on the second floor, while men go straight to the third floor. The skirts are neatly arranged by category, size, and color, making it easy to browse based on personal preference or budget. If you're unsure about what length suits you, the staff will gladly make recommendations.

Once you’ve picked a skirt, you’ll then choose a jeogori (top). Unlike other places where you pick the top yourself, the staff at Daehan Hanbok selects one for you based on your skirt choice. This ensures the colors and styles match perfectly.

2. Getting Dressed

After finalizing your hanbok, the staff helps you put it on. If the fit isn’t quite right, they’ll make adjustments with pins so that it looks just right. This extra step makes a big difference in ensuring you look and feel great.

3. Payment & Extras

The rental price depends on the type of hanbok you choose and how long you’ll be wearing it. If you want to get your hair styled, prices start at KRW 5,000 for the simplest hairstyle. You can also get your makeup done for an additional fee. Men can also choose add-ons like a hat or a sword. You pay for all these at the counter and receive a coupon to give to the hairstylists or makeup artists on the third floor.

Your rental also use of their locker to store your things and a free bag to go with your hanbok, which is a nice touch. Since it was winter, I opted for an outer coat for an additional fee, and it looked beautiful with my hanbok.

Extras

One thing I really appreciated about Daehan Hanbok was their free photo studio on the third floor. It’s a great place to snap some high-quality photos before heading out to explore.

They also offer the option to hire a professional photographer for a more polished photoshoot. I didn’t try this service myself, so I'm not familiar with the process. However, it's something to consider if you want beautifully captured memories in your hanbok. It may require an advance booking, so it's best to inquire about availability before coming in.

This was much better than my previous rental experience. Everything was clearly labeled, so there were no surprises with pricing. The process was well-organized, and the staff made sure I had everything I needed. The first time I rented a hanbok, I accidentally chose a premium one instead of a traditional one because the items weren’t properly marked, which resulted in unexpected extra charges. At Daehan Hanbok, everything was transparent, and I never felt like I was being upsold or misled.

Renting a hanbok at Daehan Hanbok was an easy and enjoyable experience. Their organized system, helpful staff, and clear pricing made the process stress-free. Whether it's your first time renting a hanbok or you're looking for a better rental shop, I highly recommend Daehan Hanbok. Don't forget: they're located on the 2nd floor!
