If you’re in Seoul and craving dakgalbi or spicy stir-fried chicken, chances are you’ve heard of Jangin Dakgalbi. It’s one of the most popular places to get this dish, and for good reason—it’s delicious, affordable, and packed with flavor. Jangin Dakgalbi has several branches in Seoul, but we tried the Hongdae location. As expected, it was busy.
Dakgalbi is a Korean dish made with bite-sized chicken pieces stir-fried with gochujang or Korean chili paste, vegetables, and sometimes cheese, rice cakes, or other toppings. You can also choose the spice level. It’s a fun meal that’s best shared with others.
Jangin Dakgalbi is always crowded, especially around dinner time, and queueing can take 1 to 2 hours. My friend and I arrived at 6pm and got really lucky—there were only a couple of groups ahead of us, and we got a table in about five minutes.
At this restaurant, the minimum order is for two people, so it’s not really solo traveler-friendly unless you’re prepared to eat two portions. We decided to get the dakgalbi with cheese, which seemed to be a popular choice. The melted cheese on top made the dish even better, balancing out the spice with a rich, creamy texture.
For dakgalbi with cheese and a bowl of rice each, we paid around 16,000 KRW per person—a solid price for a filling and flavorful meal.
Overall, the food was really good, and I can see why this place is so popular. For some people, it might be worth the long wait, but personally, I’m just not a fan of waiting in line—especially for food. With so many other great options in Seoul, I’d rather go somewhere else than stand in a queue for over an hour. But if you don’t mind the wait, you’ll definitely get a delicious meal here.
