Earlier this year, I told myself that I would run in the 21k category for this year's Milo Marathon. But several things happened. I joined two races with the Afroman distance in June and then joined races almost every weekend of July, and ended up in a not-so-good race condition. A week before the Milo Marathon, I found myself dealing with strained muscles and aching calves. But still, I wanted very much to run (mostly because I really like the singlet), so I registered under the 10k category.
My running OOTD:

Nike running shorts

By then, I pretty much know the perfect way to prep myself before a race. I had a light breakfast (oatmeal and a banana this time), drank a bottle of Gatorade, and consumed a pack of GU Energy Gel. I also went on a warm-up jog which felt really good, and that got me going.

The gun start was at 5am and I was feeling stoked. The route was fairly easy. I stopped at a couple of hydration stations throughout the entire 10km route. I had also about three 30-seconds walk breaks which slowed me down a bit but I couldn't help it because I felt my ITBS acting up. But for the most part, I breezed throughout the race with an easy and chillax pace, sprinting every now and then. I loved that our Milo APEX coaches were there cheering us on as we ran. I went all out during the last 2kms and finished my fastest 10k race ever.

I finished the race with an official chip time of 1:08:34. It was okay, I guess, but I still cannot get that sub-1 time. Hahaha! I definitely NEED more training. I'll go for a sub-1:05 first and then eventually, sub-1.
post-race photo, that's the look of exhaustion and haggardness right there

Overall, it was a good race. The route was okay. There was ample hydration. There were no loot bags for the lower categories but then again, I really don't mind. I run for the love of running, period. I saw the medals and the 42k medal was HUGE. I found myself wanting one and I promised myself that I would get one someday. I'm not in a hurry to finish my 42k, I still have a long way to go. :)
