Located in Makati is a hidden gem called Abuela's. Owned by Vicky Tensuan and Marianne Lacson Campillo, this reastaurant serves dishes created by their grandmother which are then interpreted by the latter's husband, Chef Marco Legasto. The dishes are classic Filipino ones but with a Spanish twist.
While waiting for the dishes, bread with butter was served, which I couldn't resist because I was really hungry at the time.
Mango Shake
First up were the appetizers. While all of them tasted good, my favorite would have to be the chicken wings. You really can't go wrong with chicken wings, but what I love about their version of this dish is that they added chorizo for that Spanish-Filipino taste. I also liked the bone marrow dish because of the mango jam, which added a tangy sweet and sour taste as a contrast to the bone marrow.
Kilawin - freshly caught seafood of the day, with coconut milk
Bone Marrow with Truffled Chimichurri & Onion Mango Jam - roasted

Abuela's Chicken Wings - Spanish style buffalo wings served with chorizo
and olives
Up next were the main dishes, which were inspired by classic dishes from different parts of the Philippines. Of course, Abuela's added their own twist to each dish. My favorite would have to be their version of bagnet. As an adopted Ilokana, I really love bagnet and Abuela's served the one of the best ones I've ever tasted. Another favorite would have to be their pinangat, which is a dish hailed from the Bicol region.
Laswa - Ilonggo vegetable stew with shrimp
Bagnet with Thai Sauce - Ilocos bagnet served with traditional kaffir lime sauce
Mechado Stuffed with Iberico Chorizo - choice-cut beef that melts in your
mouth stewed in Iberico chorizo, in classic mechado sauce
Pinangat - a medley of fish and crab wrapped in gabi leaves and simmered in
coconut milk
Jojo's Filipino Curry Prawns with Crab Fat Sauce - grilled prawns served with
Southern Filipino crab fat curry
No meal is ever complete without dessert and Abuela's served delicious cakes. Among the two, I liked the second one better because of its sweet taste with the slightest hint of green tea.

I had a pleasant dining expereince at Abuela's and I definitely recommend this place. You can even have your events here. Abuela’s is located at 104 Aguirre St, Somerset Millennium Makati Building, Legaspi Village, Makati City.
