Restaurante Txalaka is one of Girona's most popular dining spots, and for good reason. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and delicious Basque-inspired cuisine, it’s a must-visit for food lovers. The restaurant is highly rated and often crowded, especially during lunch, so making a reservation is essential to secure a table.

I went with a group of friends, and we decided to sample a mix of pintxos and shared plates. For those unfamiliar, pintxos are small bites, similar to tapas, traditionally skewered with a toothpick. They’re perfect for trying a variety of flavors without committing to just one dish. I tried a couple of pintxos, and they were flavorful and well-prepared, making them a great introduction to the meal.

What We Ordered

Salad with Arugula, Cheese, and Meat, Served with Crackers

This dish was a refreshing start. The peppery arugula paired well with the creaminess of the cheese and the delicate flavor of the meat. The thin crackers added a nice crunch. It was light, fresh, and set the tone for the rest of the meal.

Pescaditos Fritos (Fish)

These bite-sized fish, perfectly battered and fried, were a hit at the table. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. It’s one of those dishes that feels effortlessly delicious—simple, but executed really well.

Croquetas de Jamón

The ham croquettes were easily one of my favorites. The creamy filling was rich and flavorful, with tiny bits of jamón adding a savory, salty kick. The crisp, golden coating gave it that perfect texture contrast. If you visit Txalaka, don’t skip these—they’re comfort food at its best.

Tortilla de Bacalao (Salt Cod Omelette)

This traditional dish was another highlight. The salt cod was subtle and didn’t overpower the fluffy omelette, making it a comforting and hearty choice. It had a home-cooked feel to it, and I enjoyed every bite.

Caracoles a la Lluna (Snails)

This dish was an interesting experience for me. The snails were well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, and I can see why so many people rave about it. That said, I realized I’m not the biggest fan of snails, mostly because of their texture. If you enjoy trying unique dishes, it’s worth ordering, but for me, it’s probably a one-time thing.

Restaurante Txalaka Girona

Restaurante Txalaka lived up to its reputation with its vibrant flavors and great variety of dishes. The pintxos alone were worth the visit, but the shared plates added an extra layer of depth to the meal. While not every dish was a personal favorite, the overall experience was great.
