During my 3-night stay in Madrid, I had the opportunity to experience Hostal Yolanda, a no-frills yet comfortable accommodation located in a vibrant area of the city.
Here's a breakdown of my stay.
Location
Hostal Yolanda is situated in a great location—just a short walk to Plaza Mayor and other famous attractions like Puerta del Sol, Royal Palace, and Almudena Cathedral. If you're up for a 20-minute walk, you can easily get to the Museo Nacional del Prado and Retiro Park as well. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, offering a variety of options for dining, and a couple of grocery stores are nearby for quick snacks or essentials. The location is definitely one of the highlights of my stay, with many places to explore on foot.
Amenities
I stayed in a single room, which was quite spacious for a budget-friendly option. The room was simple but functional, with a single bed, a big closet, and a desk. The bed was comfortable, though I would imagine it could get a bit warm in summer since there’s no air conditioning. However, I didn’t mind as the weather was chilly during my visit.
Towels were provided, and the shared bathroom was clean and well-stocked with shampoo and body wash daily. I never had issues with waiting for the bathroom, and it was a relief to see it well-maintained.
That said, the walls are thin, so it might get noisy at night if other guests are walking around or talking in the corridors. Also, the hotel is located on the 3rd floor of a mixed commercial and residential building with no elevator, which could be problematic if you have a heavy suitcase. The stairs can be quite steep, and sometimes the staircase is dark at night, which made me cautious.
Cleanliness
The cleanliness at Hostal Yolanda was definitely up to standard. My room was spotless upon arrival, and I had the option for daily cleaning if I desired. The shared bathroom was consistently clean and well-maintained. This attention to detail made my stay more pleasant.
Customer Service
The customer service was a bit of a mixed experience. While the host was rarely seen in person, they were easily contactable when needed, which worked out fine for me. I didn’t need much assistance, but it's always nice to know you can reach out if necessary.
Price
For my 3-night stay, I paid PHP 9,149, which is about PHP 3,049 per night. Considering the high cost of accommodations in Madrid, this was good value for money, especially for someone who wants a bit more privacy than staying in a hostel. It’s definitely a solid choice if you're looking for an affordable and convenient stay in the city.
Overall, my stay at Hostal Yolanda was pleasant, offering a comfortable and affordable base in the heart of Madrid. Its central location makes it ideal for sightseeing, and while it has a few minor drawbacks, the cleanliness and value for money more than make up for it. If you’re looking for a simple, budget-friendly place with easy access to the city's top attractions, Hostal Yolanda is a great option.
