Exploring Segovia is an unforgettable experience, especially when you're staying in Madrid. This charming city is filled with history, stunning architecture, and picturesque views that make it worth a visit.

Segovia Day Trip

Whether you’re a solo traveler, like me, or exploring with friends and family, Segovia offers something for everyone.

How to Get to Segovia from Madrid

Getting to Segovia from Madrid is straightforward. You can take the AVE high-speed train from Madrid’s Chamartín station, which takes just 30 minutes. Another option is the bus, which departs from Moncloa station and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes, offering a budget-friendly way to reach the city.

If you’re short on time like I was, a guided day trip is a great option. I booked a Klook tour that combined Segovia and Toledo, which allowed me to explore these two cities in one day without the hassle of planning transport or itineraries. These tours usually include transportation, a knowledgeable guide, and some free time to wander. It’s a convenient way to see the highlights of both cities in a single day.

What to See in Segovia

Segovia is brimming with sights that will transport you back in time. Here are the top attractions to check out:

The Roman Aqueduct

The iconic Roman Aqueduct is one of the most impressive ancient structures in Spain. Built around the 1st century AD, this massive feat of engineering still stands tall in the heart of the city. The aqueduct spans nearly 15 kilometers and consists of over 160 arches, all constructed without mortar.

Plaza Mayor

Segovia’s main square is the perfect spot to take a break, grab a coffee, or enjoy a meal. Surrounded by historic buildings, it’s a lively place where locals and tourists come together. From here, it’s easy to access the nearby attractions or simply soak up the atmosphere.

Alcázar of Segovia

The Alcázar is like a fairytale castle that has come to life. Perched on a rocky hilltop, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Originally built as a fortress, the Alcázar has served as a royal palace and a military academy and even inspired Disney's Cinderella Castle.
