If you love watching K-dramas, this place should be on your itinerary if you plan to visit South Korea. The Dae Jang Geum Park located in Yongin is an outdoor set where many K-dramas, particularly historical ones, were filmed.

This was also the filming location for the music video of "Daechwita" by Agust D a.k.a. Suga of BTS, which makes this place a must-visit if you're a BTS ARMY, especially if your bias is Suga.

What to Expect at Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park

Located in the city of Yongin in Gyeonggi province of South Korea, Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park, previously known as MBC Dramia, is an outdoor film set owned by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation. It's a popular filming location for historical Korean drama shows so some areas might be closed on the day of your visit. It happened to us and I thought we wouldn't be able to visit the palace set but fortunately, the crew decided to take a break so they allowed us in the palace area. We even got to watch a bit of the filming.

Here you'll find replicas of traditional houses and historical palaces that give off ancient Korean vibes. This park can also give you an insight into how people lived in the old days. Additionally, you can rent and try on the traditional Korean clothing known as the hanbok and have a photo shoot in different areas of the park.

As mentioned earlier, this was where the "Daechwita" music video was filmed, which is why it made it into my list of places to visit in South Korea. I even had a photoshoot moment in the marketplace area where cameos Jin and Jungkook had their little brawl in the music video.

Other popular Korean dramas filmed in Dae Jang Geum Park include “Moon Embracing the Sun” featuring Kim Soo-hyun, “Gu Family Book” starring Lee Seung-gi and Suzy, "The Red Sleeve" featuring Lee Jun-ho, and “Empress Ki” featuring Ha Ji-won and Ji Chang-wook. And if you've seen the more recent series "King The Land" also starring Lee Jun-ho, they also had some scenes filmed in this park.

Entry to the park costs only KRW9,500 or around PHP400, while students can get tickets at discounted rates.

How to Get to Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park

Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park is well outside of Seoul so it can be difficult to get to via public transportation but not impossible. From any point in Seoul, you have to get to Giheung Station Bundang Line, then take Bus No. 10 and ride 47 stops to Jwachan. From there, take Bus No. 78 and ride 27 stops to Beagam Middle and High School. Finally, take Bus No. 105 and ride 15 stops to MBC Drama Filming Site then walk 580 meters to the park. The total travel time can take up to three hours.

If you want a more convenient way to get to the park, you can book a transportation package through Klook, which also includes the admission ticket.

Or you can do what I did - I booked the BTS ARMY Fan Tour which included the Yongin Dae Jang Geum Park, highlighting the areas where they filmed "Daechwita", and a tour of the different BTS-related places in Gangnam. This tour I'd highly recommend because it was such a hassle-free way to visit all the places that pay homage to the BTS members.
