If you want to try local food in Austria, then you couldn't get any more local than Gumpendorfer Stube. It's a small restaurant and pub close to the city center of Vienna, and just a few minutes' walk from my hotel.
This was recommended to me by a friend who's living in Vienna. I told him I wanted to try the local cuisine and this was the first place he thought of, plus it had a lot of good reviews.
Here's what I ordered.
turkey wiener schnitzel |
potato salad |
The verdict? Overall, I loved my dining experience here. It was a no-frills restaurant with affordable local food. Everything I ordered was tasty, especially the schnitzel, and the portions were a tad too generous. Considering that everything in Vienna is expensive, the prices of the food here were reasonable.
The service was really good. It was fast and the staff members were quite friendly and attentive. I thought the place looked really cute and cozy.
The fact that many locals dined here pretty much meant that this place isn't just a tourist trap and is the real deal when it comes to local cuisine.
If you want to check it out, you can find it on Google Maps here. I would highly recommend this place if you're visiting Vienna and looking to try local Austrian food.
