For my recent trip to Taipei, I made a list of places I wanted to eat at based on the areas I’d be visiting each day. Sinchao Rice Shoppe was one of them. It also happened to be conveniently located near TICC Taipei, where the concert I attended was held, so it worked out as an easy lunch spot before heading there.

Sinchao Rice Shoppe is listed on the Michelin Guide and has a Bib Gourmand recognition. They’re known for their fried rice, which might sound simple at first, but it’s clearly done with a lot of intention. When I arrived, the place was already quite busy, which didn’t come as a surprise. Still, I was seated right away, even without a reservation.

I ordered the Taiwanese Deep Fried Pork Chop with Cabbage Fried Rice, and it ended up being one of the best rice meals I had during the trip. The portion was generous, the pork was really flavorful, and everything came together well. It was really satisfying.

I also ordered dessert and went for the Brown Sugar Basque Burnt Cheesecake. It was a good way to end the meal, though I was already quite full from the rice. It did feel like a bit too much for one sitting, but I don’t always order like that, so I just went with it.

The whole meal was on the pricier side at NTD670 or around PHP1,270, with service fee not yet included. I usually travel on a budget, but I don’t mind spending more on food if it feels worth it, and this was one of those cases. The food was good, the service was excellent, and the interiors were really pretty. It felt slightly more upscale without being intimidating.

Overall, I had a really good experience at Sinchao Rice Shoppe and would recommend it, especially if you’re in the area or already planning to visit nearby spots. It’s a good option if you want something simple but well-executed, and a place where you can sit down and enjoy a proper meal.
