This is one of those places I came across recently and immediately knew I’d want to come back to. Decalcomanie is located in the Yongsan area, and it’s not something you’ll spot right away from the main road. You have to head inside a small market area to find it, which already makes it feel a bit more hidden.
Once you’re there, it stands out as a small restaurant serving Western-style dishes with a bit of a twist. The menu is quite limited, which I usually take as a good sign. If they offer only a few dishes, it means that they do those dishes really well. They had set options for two people as well as solo plates, so it works whether you’re dining with someone or on your own.
It was nearly lunch time then, so I went for the Korean beef white ragu pasta. Before the main dish arrived, they served complimentary bread with a light oil and balsamic dip, which was a nice start while waiting. The pasta came out shortly after, and the portion was more generous than I expected.
The dish itself was really good. The sauce was creamy, with just a slight hint of spice, and the minced beef blended well, giving the pasta more texture. The arugula also added a nice bit of crunch and helped cut through the richness. There was a lot of sauce, almost to the point where the pasta was swimming in it, but I didn’t mind because it was that good.
I ended up using the bread to scoop up whatever was left of the sauce, which made the whole meal feel even more satisfying. I also ordered their yellow ade, which is a mix of passion fruit and orange. It was really refreshing.
If you’re in Yongsan and want something a little different from the usual Korean meals, Decalcomanie is a good place to try. I’d definitely come back.
