Finding budget accommodation in Barcelona can be challenging, especially if you're looking for a private room that doesn’t compromise on comfort or safety. I stayed at Hostal Elkano for five nights during my recent trip, and despite some initial doubts due to the photos I saw online, the good reviews convinced me to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.

Hostal Elkano Barcelona

Location

Hostal Elkano has a fantastic location, making it a great base for exploring the city. It's just a 5-minute walk from Poble Sec Station, giving you easy access to public transport, and the area is dotted with restaurants and a nearby grocery store. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe throughout my stay and had no issues walking around, even at night.

Amenities

I booked a single room, and though compact, it exceeded my expectations. The bed was spacious enough to fit two people comfortably and came with air conditioning, which is a lifesaver for Barcelona’s warmer days. Storage space was cleverly maximized with a small clothes rack, a bedside table, and a bench to place belongings. There was even room under the bed for luggage.

While the room didn’t have its own bathroom, it had a sink, which was very convenient. The shared showers and toilets were sufficient, and I never experienced any waiting time. Additional perks included free hot and cold water, complimentary coffee and tea, and a fridge in the common area for storing food. For the price, these amenities were impressive and very practical.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness was one of the highlights of my stay. My room was spotless and offered optional daily cleaning. The common areas were also well-maintained and smelled fresh, which added to the comfort of the stay.

Customer Service

The staff at Hostal Elkano were incredibly friendly and helpful. The 24/7 front desk was a big plus, and the receptionist was always ready with tips, directions, or a friendly greeting or smile. Their warm and accommodating service made the stay even more enjoyable.

Price

At Php4,060 or approximately €66 per night, the price for a private air-conditioned room in Barcelona was incredibly reasonable. Many hostels in the city charge similar rates for dorm beds in rooms for up to 12 people, so this hostal offered exceptional value for money. Considering the cleanliness, amenities, and overall experience, I couldn’t have asked for more.

Hostal Elkano may not offer luxury, but it delivers comfort, safety, and convenience at a price that’s hard to beat in Barcelona. I highly recommend it for budget travelers who want a private room and great service without breaking the bank.
