Tucked away in the charming alleys of Ikseon-dong, Damsot is one of those spots that instantly makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. Damsot is a modern Korean barbecue spot that combines traditional techniques with a contemporary flair. What really sets it apart, though, is the use of the "damsot" – a type of iron pot that enhances the flavor and texture of food as it cooks.
The interior is cosy and welcoming. The service was attentive from the start, and as a solo diner, the staff made sure I was comfortable by explaining the menu and the way the food was prepared.
Now, let’s talk about the food. I ordered the steak pot rice, and the steak was incredible. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and tender, it arrived sizzling on the damsot pot, still cooking slightly. The richness of the steak was enhanced by the way the pot maintained the heat, giving it that extra depth of flavor. And then, there was the runny egg on the side, and when I broke into it, the yolk mixed with the steak juices in the most satisfying way. I paired it with some of their house-made sauces, which were delicious.
What I loved most about Damsot was how simple yet elevated everything felt. The side dishes were fresh and complemented the meal perfectly. The whole experience felt like comfort food done right. If you’re in Ikseon-dong and looking for a place to have a meal that feels homey but special, Damsot is definitely worth a visit.
