If you're looking for a good place to try local food and beer in Munich, one of the places that would often come up in Google Search results is Hofbräuhaus.
Hofbräuhaus is a well-known brewery and beer hall located in the city center of Munich, Germany. It has a rich history that dates back to the 16th century as it was established as a royal brewery by the Duke of Bavaria. The brewery quickly gained popularity and is currently known for its high-quality beer and lively atmosphere.
Of course, I had to go there. Here's what I tried.
pork with mashed potato in Dunkel-bier sauce |
pretzel |
I ordered Bavarian dishes and overall, the food was tasty but it was nothing really special. The pork was good and the sauce was quite tasty. The pretzel was delicious but it was quite big, and eating after having the pork dish was too much as I was already full. It practically put me in a food coma.
As expected, the whole place was loud and a bit crowded but it wasn't hard to find a table, especially since I was dining alone. I imagine it would definitely be more crowded during peak tourism season.
If you're visiting Munich, then Hofbräuhaus should be on your list of places to visit if you're looking to try local dishes.
