Late post. Again.
Anyways, this is about the most recent race event that I joined which took place on the 17th of August: the Sofitel Manila Half Marathon.
When I first heard about it, I really had no intention of joining because I had other race events in mind. But then peer pressure came in and I saw the design for the singlet and the medal, and the next thing I new, I was calling up JC to sign me up. You see, his office is near the registration site in Bonifacio High Street.
A week before race date, my shin splints were acting up on my right leg. So I had my mind set on just taking it easy. The night before, it was raining pretty badly so I was hoping and praying for a good weather.

Race day. I woke up before my alarm so I had lots of time to prep for the race. I ate a hearty breakfast and hydrated. It started drizzling about an hour before the gun start. Thirty minutes before, I consumed a pack of GU Energy Gel and did my usual warm-ups. It continued to drizzle until a little after the gun start.
Almost all throughout the race, I maintained an easy 3:1 interval run. Following the 3:1, I had to coincidentally run most of the uphell parts. Although at one point, I ran about five kilometres straight because I was in what you'd call "the zone". I saw many running friends and greeted them along the way. Overall, I had a good run.

I finished with an official time of 2:54:01 which was okay for someone who did some walks in between. Hahaha.
The registration fee was a bit pricey compared to other runs but it was worth it for several reasons. For one, the singlet and the finisher shirt were of good quality. I really like the singlet and it fit me well. There was ample hydration spaced just right throughout the route. There were no long queues to deal with at the baggage counter and during the finishers kit claiming. The finishers medal was huge and heavy. I also liked its design. It was a pretty well-organised race, as Runrio events go. Kudos to Sofitel Manila and to Runrio Inc. for this! :)

grrr i hated the finishers shirt. they really shouldnt have done the edges of the bottom like the singlet. shouldve been like a normal tshirt. hehe anyway thats just my opinion. overall i enjoyed it too coz it was my 1st half marathon :D
ReplyDeleteHaven't noticed the edges much but I liked it because of the comfy fabric. :) Anyway, congrats on finishing your first half marathon! :)
